Sudan help!

635fj0e12kj6x6m On Wednesday we received an email from a friend who is connected to an NGO working in Sudan with the mission of preventing and combating human trafficking and all forms of modern-day slavery.  In addition to many things they do, they operate a compound for widows and orphans in southern Sudan.  That morning our friend received a distress call from director of the NGO telling her that there was an epidemic outbreak of meningitis.  This outbreak is known and recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO).  Some brief details include:

Villagers walk for miles to come to the compound's clinic (the ONLY clinic in the area) to receive the medicine that she has (it had been being administered through 2 nurses but one has been infected with the virus and the other one has left the compound in fear of being affected); therefore, she currently has no one to administer the vaccinations.

11 people died on the compound within the past 24 hours; several more are dangerously ill

At the end of the email there was this call: "Please prayerfully consider this request and open your heart to anyone that you think might be of assistance in this matter..."

Conny Vrieling - part of the shema team - is a medical doctor (and mother of two young children) decided to answer "this call" and volunteered to go. This Tuesday she will fly to Nairobi, Kenya and from there to Sudan to work on a two-week shift to administer the vaccinations.

In the week we are 'upsetting the privileged' to start a good riot stepping outside our comfort zone of privilege is a beautiful move in which Shema Community wants to participate as a whole.

Please think about how you can help. We still are specifically looking for medical stuff, such as gloves, masks, general antibiotics, antibiotic ointments, bandages, anti-diarrhea medication. You can also participate by helping out in the Vrieling household while Conny is in Sudan and you can help with providing financial resources for this ordeal.
